Amir

Amir (he/him) is an 18-year-old aspiring barber. He loves helping others feel good about themselves by providing them with a fresh haircut. He aspires to expand the definition of “beauty” to include features of the heart, like kindness and compassion. Amir also enjoys playing sports, including soccer and basketball. His high school named him Homecoming King in 2023.

Amir came out as transgender at age 13, while in middle school. Since then, he has been candid about his journey, sharing his experience with hopes of benefiting others. Amir has spoken with journalists, executives and U.S. Department of Education officials to advocate for transgender and nonbinary young people. In 2022, he was invited to the White House for Transgender Day of Visibility to share his story, and during Pride he proudly stood behind President Joe Biden as he signed an executive order advancing equity for LGBTQ+ people. Amir is featured in the GLAAD award-winning ABC Special “Our America: Who I’m Meant To Be,” now streaming on Hulu.

In addition to his advocacy for transgender youth, Amir is passionate about breast cancer awareness, having lost his mother to breast cancer when he was 8 years old.
